COVID-19 Information & Protocol

What’s going to be different for Santa’s Angels because of COVID-19?

For Christmas in 2020, we all adjusted to the new reality of COVID- 19. We see a similar Christmas for 2021.

The committee members at Santa’s Angels have been hard at work coming up with ways to continue serving our community while minimizing the risk to the health and safety of our volunteers and recipient families. Although COVID-19 is still dynamic in our communities, this is what will be different for Christmas 2021.

Fewer Angels on the teams

In past years, we’ve had many angels from different families working together on the route. This year we’re going to limit the number of angels on each route. We’re targeting a cohort size of 4 to 8 people.

Spreading cheer from the street

Most years Santa comes into the house and gives each gift to the children. Instead, we’ll be dropping the gifts at the front door and stay distanced while we spread some cheer and give a wave from the street.

Pre-packing Santa’s bags

Most years, our teams packed the gifts for the family as a large group. This year, we’ll be packing the toys in smaller groups. All gifts will be packed into a large plastic bag and placed inside the Santa sack. Since Santa will not be handing the gifts to the children; the gifts will be labelled with the name of the recipient.

Preschedule warehouse sorting

Most years, we need lots of Angels to help with last-minute sorting before the big day.  To help keep everyone safe, we’re limiting the number of Angels.  We’ll post all our available shifts online (both on the website and social media) for angels to pick the days/times they can sign up to help us out.

Changes to hospital visits

In the past our angels and Santa’s visited hospitals and care centres, but with those residents being the most vulnerable, we are considering new ways to bring them some cheer.

Thank you to everyone who has been and is helping us serve the community through this challenging and uncertain time, however long it may last. We couldn’t be more grateful to have your continued support.

Enhanced Public Safety Measures
